The NEDA Regional Office (NRO) 7 briefed officials from Tuguegarao City who were in Cebu City to learn about the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board (MCDCB) and the Mega Cebu experience.
NRO 7 Regional Director Efren Carreon did a presentation on the development initiatives and urbanization trends in Metro Cebu, projects that were borne out of public-private coordination. He also gave a background on the role of the RDC 7 and on how its partnership with the private sector is making the MCDCB work.
RD Carreon was joined by RDC-Social Development Committee chairperson Evelyn Castro of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., who presented the Mega Cebu initiative and how linkages with foreign funding institutions has made some of its projects possible.
Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano, who led the group, said the visit and learning from it were important to them because a big part of the success of the planned Metro Tuguegarao relies on its constituents.
“Metro Cebu will inspire us. Thank you for giving us the hope to have our own Metro Tuguegarao,” he added.
Aside from Soriano, comprising the group were other city officials and NRO 2 OIC Regional Director Dionisio Ledres, Jr., formerly NRO 7 assistant regional director.
The Tuguegarao City officials visited Cebu because they wanted to learn from Metro Cebu’s experience and how this could be replicated in their bid to form a Metro Tuguegarao. They also visited the projects that were initiated by the MCDCB.
