Construction works for the third bridge connecting mainland Cebu to Mactan Island kicked off in a ceremony held last 05 July 2018.

The implementation of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), an 8.5-kilometer toll bridge and road project, will be undertaken by the Metro Pacific Tollways Corpthrough a joint venture agreement between the company, and the Cebu City and Cordova local government units.

Present during the ceremony were Cebu City Mayor Tomas OsmeƱa, Cordova Municipality Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho, Presidential Legislative Liaison Office Secretary Adelino Sitoy, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, Metro Pacific Investments Corporation President and CEO Jose Maria Lim, and Metro Pctific Tollways Corp President and CEO Rodgrigo Franco.

Considered one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the country, the CCLEX will complement other solutions undertaken by the government to ease traffic congestion in Metro Cebu and is expected to bring progress and development not only to Cebu but to the entire Visayas region as it will connect the mainland to the International Airport in Mactan.

The twin pylon cable-stayed main bridge of CCLEX features a lighted cross to symbolize Cebu’s role as the center of Catholicism in the country. When complete, it will become Cebu’s iconic landmark. The target completion is 2021, timed with the planned celebration of the 500 years of the landing of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in Cebu.

Several government agencies were invited to the ceremony. RD Efren Carreon and ARD Dionisio Ledres, Jr of the National Economic and Development Authority 7 witnessed the event.
