The members of the technical working group (TWG) on Intra-Island Sea Transport headed by Private Sector Representative Engr. William Liu, Jr. conducted an ocular inspection of the possible port locations which can be utilized as links in crossing the channel between Mactan island and Cebu mainland on February 02, 2017.

PSR Engr William Liu, Jr., head of the technical working group discusses possible port links with TWG members on board a Coast Guard vessel.

The TWG was created by the RDC 7 Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC) to look for alternative solutions to alleviate heavy traffic experienced by passengers and motorists crossing mainland Cebu to the international airport, Mactan Export Processing Zone, resorts and other destinations in Mactan island.

Aboard the Philippine Coast Guard vessel, the TWG assessed the feasibility of establishing future links at the ports of: Gothong and Boardwalk Area both in Mandaue City; Gothong Wharf-Canjulao, Muelle Osmena, Anton’s Place and MEPZ 4 all in Lapu-Lapu City; and Cansaga Wharf in Consolacion, Cebu. The group also visited the site of the proposed New Cebu International Container Port in Consolacion, Cebu.

Members of the TWG include representative from the following agencies: Cebu Port Authority, DPWH, MARINA, LTO, NEDA, Philippine Coast Guard and LGUs of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Consolacion, and Cebu Province.
