The National Project Monitoring Committee (NPMC) Chair, Usec. Adoracion Navarro, along with NEDA VII Regional Director Efren Carreon and staff conducted monitoring visits to major infrastructure projects in Metro Cebu last 22 January 2016.
Cebu Bus Rapid Transit Project
The day-long monitoring visit started with a briefing on the Cebu Rapid Transit (BRT) Project by Atty. Rafael Christopher Yap of the Project Implementation Unit (PIU). The Cebu BRT Project includes the establishment of a 23-kilometer corridor transport system with around 33 bus stations and 176 buses that will run through dedicated and exclusive bus-ways from Bulacao to Ayala Center Cebu (ACC), and mixed traffic operations from ACC to Talamban, Cebu City, with a link to Cebu’s South Road Properties (SRP). The target date for the civil works to start is January 2018 and is expected to be completed by January 2020. On the issue of informal settlers, Usec. Navarro urged the PIU to partner with non-government organizations like Gawad Kalinga.
Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway
The team from Municipality of Cordova, headed by Mayor Teche Sitoy-Cho, presented the general profile of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, also known as the Cebu Third Bridge, for which they are closely coordinating with joint venture partner Metro Pacific Tollways and Development Corporation. The third bridge is envisioned to decongest the traffic in the two existing bridges connecting mainland Cebu to Mactan Island. The project connects Cebu City to Cordova through on-and-off ramps from Cebu South Coastal Road. It includes the construction of the main bridge structure, viaduct, causeway and roadway.
The GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) Chief Executive Advisor, Mr. Andrew Harrison, briefed the NPMC Chair on the updates of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport New Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), a PPP Project. It involves the construction of a new passenger terminal, rehabilitation of the existing terminal, construction of an apron for the new terminal, operation, maintenance, and management of the new and old terminals. The project is ahead of schedule, as of 31 December 2016, with a 40.85% actual accomplishment against a 36.21% target. Its target completion date is July 2018.
