The Chairperson of the Central Visayas Regional Development Council (RDC 7), Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, has been selected Chair of the Regional Development Committee Visayas (RDCom Visayas) in the RDCom Visayas meeting held May 10 at the Marco Polo Hotel, Cebu City. As Chairperson of RDCom Visayas, RDC 7 Chair Mayor Rama will represent the Regional Development Councils of Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas and Central Visayas in the NEDA Board-Regional Development Committee. RDC 6 Chairperson is Capiz Governor Victor Tanco, Sr.; RDC 8 Chairperson is Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla. Mayor Rama, who took his oath of office as RDC 7 Chair only last May 3, has been briefed on the structure and functions of the NEDA Board and its Inter-agency Committees, including the RDCom. The NEDA Board-RDCom was created at the national level to coordinate and integrate regional development efforts as well as promote cross-regional and regional/local concerns. It seeks to ensure that spatial implication of policies are adequately considered in national development policy formulation. It also seeks to strengthen the linkages between national and regional/local planning, programming, project development, budgeting and implementation, among other things.
